Lets go crazy

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

It’s been a long time coming but Janelle Monae is finally getting the recognition she deserves. She performed an electrifying cover of ‘Lets Go Crazy’ by Prince at the BET Awards this weekend. Oh and did I mention that Prince was in the audience watching?! I would’ve shat myself if I was her. I’m glad she didn’t, that would’ve been awkward.

Heavy In Your Arms

Florence + The Machine continues to wow me, she encompasses everything I love in a popstar. It takes every ounce of will power in my body not to skip down the street and do cartwheels whenever I listen to ‘Dogs Days Are Over’.

Her set at Glastonbury included the first ever live performance of ‘Heavy In Your Arms’ from the Eclipse Soundtrack, as well as a gorgeous cover of ‘The Chain’ by Fleetwood Mac. Amazing.

Plan B (no, not THAT plan b)

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

I’ve been a fan of Plan B for a while now. I remember first hearing his song ‘Sick 2 Def‘ in 2006 and literally bumping right into him at SXSW a couple of years later. His new album The Defamation of Strickland Banks went straight to number one in England and deservedly so. It’s impossible to ignore his gorgeous voice, it’s so rich and soulful it reminds me of Terence Trent D’Arby. Here’s a live performance of my favorite track from his album ‘Writing’s On The Wall’.
